Oh yep I hear you! I’m also a copywriter and my job changed DRAMATICALLY when Chatty man came on the scene. The agency I worked for specialised in seo content, which obviously makes the most sense to replace with AI. The agency went balls deep trying to develop their own AI content tool and never really acknowledged what a huge, existential transition it was for the content team. I’m freelance now and leaning much more to working with brands that have fun / playful personalities where we can use humour which AI is still shit at.
I looooove this. There's just no comparison between AI and the funky input of a creative human. Hope that side of your work blows up in the best possible way :)
For utilitarian writing (ad copy, catalogs, promotional stuff), AI just makes too much economic sense. As with your situation, they’ll keep one human in the pipeline to proofread (or they won’t even bother with that), and the others will be set adrift. It’s sad. But as you say, it’s unavoidable.
I wonder what the landscape will look like for more creative writing. Books, journalism, screenplays, Substack. Right now, AI still feels clunky. But what about in 5 years? Or 10? I like to hope that the human spark will always outshine AI. But this technology is evolving in ways we can’t possibly wrap our arms around. All we can do, as writers, is keep creating our best work.
Okay, AI could never replace your wit. Also, you said "not to get too spiritual" but sir, ALWAYS get too spiritual. AI can't take our mystical souls!!
Love your acceptance of "what is" you're a great dad already.
AI could never replace your ability to write the best comments/compliments.
“Hey siri, please respond to Porter with EXTRA love and respect but also make it funny and even slightly weird- he’ll know what it means” 🤣🪄

Hmmm. . . You must have copied from Snoopy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-OD9xSchzI.
That aside, writing is always a work in progress (pun intended)--and no AI is gonna stop me from that!
Anything Snoopy says is alright with me, haha!
Great read, man and agree, fighting against AI is a losing battle.
The thing I find reassuring, though: it’s just not that funny.
Ironic how AI can take a writer’s job but can’t rake that old lady’s garden. Technology is a false god.
I demand AI rakes!

It's certainly an uneven footing. As you said, there's nothing we can do but continue sharing our humanity through our work.
