Your tinder note just popped up on my timeline and here I am reading this on the train, love it and brilliant on the remission. The 5 dumb things on this list are definitely dumb and thankfully, I don't do them, as life has taught me not to but I always love reading them, as it makes them stronger in my mind and it's always great to know people feel the same.
Number 2 - so funny and having worked in hospitality, I get this, and feel everyone should have a stint at working in a bar/restaurant to realise what it is like and they may then stop asking for recommendations.
Number 5 - I mean, these lists are everywhere, as well as the books but I'd rather take 5 minutes of action, in fact, thank you for the reminder, I'm off to buy a camera, cos talking about it won't make my 'new thing' happen.
Love your writing too, will spend some time reading all your other posts at some point soon too.
It sounds like your life is humming along nicely if you've managed to avoid all five of these things. And congratulations on surviving hospitality. We've been in the trenches and come out the other side, haha.
Have a great week right back (and let me know if you enjoy any other of my posts too!!!) :)
Even though my anxiety peaks at #1 and #4, I will try to convince it that I might still be able to “pass convincingly as a human” by applying this advice from a stranger on the internet. 🤣
Seriously, I think this is the most brilliant list I have read in a very long time! Love it - including your personality in it.
I make an exception for #2 at one restaurant in Charlotte. And it delivers every time but that’s part of their thing. Otherwise, a great list! And you can’t argue with me because of #3! 😂
From this neat restaurant in the Davidson area called Kindred. Excellent food and terrific drinks. They have a barkeep’s choice on the menu. Below is a list of what I had in my drink the last time we went. It was delicious!
- bourbon
- aperal
- st germain
- lemon
- montenegro
- orange blissom
(Could be some typos; the handwriting is hard to read. But they write it down for you on a coaster and let you keep it!)
Did I really come to read this badass-Aussie's blog and end up finding another person from north Mecklenburg?!?! hahaha 🤯 The world is small! But if you are so intrigued, Mr. Alexander, we will all meet in Davidson, NC one day!!
Great post - I did actually lol in real life. I’m currently terminal with cancer, but who knows…it’s given me a new perspective on life and how to live it (went through the gamut, though) and I’ve come to the conclusion that the only way to deal with life is to focus on the good things - whatever they are for you. Threesomes, bluebells, a chicken kebab with chilli sauce, sunshine on a cloudy day…and especially if they are all rolled into one experience 😉.
I’m going to forward it to my son (23). He listens to Jordan Peterson and his ilk, so he could do with a little light heartedness and less emphasis on the “YOU MUST DO THIS OR ELSE YOUR LIFE WILL BE WORTHLESS” diatribes (yes, you have a reader who knows the word ‘diatribe’). He’ll ignore it of course.
1,000 percent great rules to live by, including the ones about the futility of debating with others online; not caring about what other people think of your new ventures; and putting your life in others' hands. The key to a happy life is knowing yourself and your own heart.
Another key to happiness? Trying tarragon on chicken (if only to find out what it tastes like).
I truly enjoy your writing style. (and sometimes even what you write!) You have that combination of wit and wisdom which I find rare outside of the reptilian community. I look up to you. (Don't let it inflate your ego...I'm 5'4"...I look up to everyone.)
Thanks mate! I went and got leukemia when none of my 4 brothers did so I've got a track record of blazing the road less traveled. If you check out any of my other posts you'll find they continue breaking the "real writer rules", haha.

What a delightful comment to wake up to!

Good stuff, although I may not do these 5 dumb things, I’m sure I do equally as dumb things in other ways 😂
For sure regarding the writing too, once I’ve read a few others, I’ll let you know.
To doing less dumb things and taking action! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
How does one join the waitlist for the next remission celebration?
I'll start a newsletter wait list. Can never have too many newsletters.

I hope you've got a ton of awesome "new stuff" to try with not a single glass of milk in sight 😉
Unless it’s the bartender’s recommendation 😜

Damn! Trapped by my own logic 😅 What do they recommend in this Charlotte restaurant that tickles your pickle?

omg and wait! I just realized that I went to Kindred for my celebratory dinner after finishing my first stint (the 2.5 years) of chemo!! 😆
Can’t beat it! And congrats on beating IT!
