Laughter is the best medicine. So are spot on posts like this. Thanks for the laughter and also the coupon. I’ll use it for the cramps I have in my legs from walking the fine line between TMI and sticking my head in the sand while wrapping my head around the future. Take care.

That 25% off your reconstructive surgery is the least I can do, your loyalty inspires me, haha.

Since I'm still catching up on my reading, the news is still more depressing, and it's now turned into "What The Actual Fuck Just Happened?” <starts scrolling properties in Costa Rica>

I don't think the news ever stops being grim, haha. We just have to find a way to hold onto hope and positivity in our own lives. I hear the sloths in Costa Rica are cute, see if you can spend some time with them :)

Too true. There needs to be a Good News Channel we can flip, too, though. Where instead of someone like Lester Holt ending the segment with "Be kind to yourself and others", they end with baby births: "24 angels were born today. Shine on."

If it was the late 1960s, people would be flocking to India to make you their guru. Think how sad they would be when they got to Goa and discovered you don’t live there. Despite the news, I’m so glad we are living in 2024 and can access your wisdom here on Substack!

If I take anything from this comment, it's that I should consider starting a cult. You'll be the first to receive a set of white robes and slippers when that day comes, my friend!

Some people have told me that I already belong in a place where they wear white robes and slippers.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out! I may have binged 4 or 5 of your articles and I'll join the chorus of people who tell you that your style is incredible. It's borderline annoying how good it is and easy it is to read. Like I'm happy to have found it, and annoyed I'm not writing it, haha.

Thank you for this one. I haven’t opened my Substack app in a week or so bc we’ve been assessing damages from Helene and had to evacuate north to avoid Milton. This was the first thing that popped up for me to read and was the perfect thing to calm my nervous system, giggle a little and remember to breathe. 🌬️

I just finished reading The Doomsday Book by Connie Willis. There's nothing like a detailed, unrelentless peek into what it's like to nurse bubonic plague victims to help you realize things could be worse. A lot worse.

Now I kind of want to read this book. Thanks for the recommendation :)

It’s only the last third or so that’s grim, but it makes an impression. It won both the Hugo and Nebula awards. I especially like her time travel novels about WWII, Blackout and All Clear.

What a pleasant read. It made my insides warm, and laughs escape.

That was the easy bit. You have that effect on me.

What I’m angling for is to know what filthy thoughts you’ll have about me. Is that so very bad?!

Ps. Straight face. British accent.

Danusia, those filthy thoughts run as long as your name - you've got plenty of letters in the alphabet and I respect that about you! Don't tease me with that British accent either, I'm famously weak around it.

Ah, you cheeky thing. Filthy thoughts, alphabet jokes, and here I am, powerless against your mighty writing - how dare you!

Srsly, thank you. No smoke.

I too wish I were Moo Deng. Alas, I’m not even cute anymore. But I managed to make it to old, and still laugh at cute baby hippos. All is not lost.

Thanks for the laugh this morning! I'm a fellow recovering cancerino who puts things in perspective by thinking, "At least I don't have chemo." Seriously, chemo sucks. And the world is sucking quite a bit right now, too. I must admit I err on the side of head-in-sand, especially as I'm a Brit in LA who's not allowed to vote. Maybe I can vote for belly rubs for Moo Deng instead!

Lovely reminder to find the Middle Way. I tend to err on the side of “shut it all out”, to protect my sanity. But, ignorance isn’t necessarily bliss.

A lot less bad things happen when you stop watching the news. You can then focus on what is important to you and spend your time and energy creating a life you love. Media is all about distraction. If you can't do anything about a problem on the other side of the world, then there isn't a lot of point worrying about it.
